Question 5.
Which nerve sends the signal to the brain?
Answer:
The auditory nerve sends the signal to the brain.

Question 6.
What is reflection of sound?
Answer:
When the sound waves strike against solid surface, they change its direction, this is called reflection of sound. in air (332 m/sec). Thus, the sound reaches through the iron rail earlier than through air. So, to hear a train approaching from far away people put their ears to the track.

Question 7.
What are the musical instruments?
Answer:
Musical instruments are the devices which produce various sounds which are pleasant for our ears and produce soothing effects. The sound produced by these instruments is called music.

Question 8.
What distinguishes the sounds produced by different human beings from each other?
Answer:
Vocal cords in humans are the sound producing parts. When they are vibrated they produce sound. They are held by the muscles and the tightness with which they are held determines the quality of sound. The length of the vocal cords also determines the quality of voice.

Question 9.
If you want to hear a train approaching when it is still far away why is it more successful if you pull ears close to the railway track?
Answer:
As we know that the velocity of sound in iron is more (5100 m/sec) than in air (332 m/sec). Thus, the sound reaches through the iron rail earlier than through air. So, to hear a train approaching from far away people put their ears to the track.

Question 10.
What is an echo? What are conditions necessary for echo formation?
Answer:
An echo is a reflected sound. The human ear can hear two sounds separately and distinctly only if there is an interval of 1/15 of a second between two. Since the speed of the sound in air is about 330 m / s, the distance traveled by sound in l/15th of a second is,
Distance = speed × time
= 330 m/s × 1/15 s
= 22 meter or m.
Therefore, the distance between the sources of a sound and the reflecting surface should be 22/2 = 11 meters.

Project: Requirements – 2 test tubes, marker pen, sugar, yeast powder, 2 balloons and lime water.
Take two test tubes and mark them A and B. Clamp these tubes in a stand and fill them with water leaving some space at the top. Put two spoonful of sugar in each of the test tubes. Add a spoonful of yeast in test tube B. Inflate the two balloons incompletely. Now tie the balloons on the mouths of each test tube.
Keep them in a warm place, away from sunlight. Watch the setup every day for next 3-4 days. Record your observations and think of an explanation. Now take another test tube filled 1/4 with lime water. Remove the balloon from test tube B in such a manner that gas inside the balloon does not escape. Fit the balloon on the test tube and shake well. Observe and explain.
Answer:
The balloon in test tube B will get inflated because the process of fermentation has taken place in test tube B. Yeast, bacteria and carbon dioxide gas produced during this process has inflated the balloon. Now the balloon will get a little deflated as gas is consumed by the lime water and the lime water will turn milky.

Dear Anil,

I would like to draw your attention towards the importance of trees. We all know that trees are vital for all living beings. Without trees survival of mankind is impossible. Trees help in maintaning ecological balance. They give us fruit and leaves to plant-eating animals. Beasts of prey eat the plant -eating animals. In this way trees directly and indirectly give us food. They also provide us leaves and roots which are used in preparing many medicines. Trees keep the environment clean. They also provide us wood, shelter and shade. Trees are really very important. Hence, we mustn’t cut it. I am sure you have the same opinion about trees. Rest is fine.

Your affectionately
Wahid

Mp Board Class 8 Science Solution Chapter 9 Question 2.
Describe the process of fertilization in human beings.
Answer:
In human beings, sexual reproduction occurs which is reproduction results from the fusion of male and female gametes. The male reproductive organs are a pair of testis, sperm ducts and penis. The testis produces the male gametes called sperms. Millions of sperms are produced by the testis. Though the sperms are very small in size, each has a head, a middle piece and a tail. Each sperm is a single cell with all the usual cell components.

The female reproductive organs are a pair of ovaries, oviducts and the uterus. Ovary produces female gametes called ova (eggs). In human beings, a single matured egg is released into the oviduct by one of the ovaries every month. Uterus is the part where development of the; baby takes place. Like sperm, an egg is also a single cell.

The first step in the process of reproduction is the fusion of a sperm and an ovum. Millions of sperms from the male are transferred into the female body. The sperms swim in the oviduct with the help of their tails to reach the egg. When they come in contact with the egg, one of the sperms may fuse with the egg.

Such fusion of the egg and the sperm is called fertilization. During fertilization, the nucleus of the sperm and the egg fuse to form a single nucleus. This results in the formation of a fertilized egg or zygote. The new individual inherits some characteristics from the mother and some characteristics from the father.
